Korean Central Church Shows Generosity & Hospitality to New Church Plant

Pastor Lee and the good people of Korean Central Church, located just east of 377 at 200 E Mildred Lane, have displayed incredible generosity to the new Grace Church Benbrook plant by extending the use of their building during “prime” Sunday morning hours at a very low (yet undisclosed) fee. Furthermore, the Korean Central Church has shown great patience and flexibility as thenew,  fledgling congregation moves in and out of their building for set up, meetings, and special events throughout the week. In a day where churches are often driven by territorial-ism, this particular church has displayed the attributes Jesus in their humility, kindness, hospitality, and generosity.

Also worth noting is that the youth of Korean Central Church will soon be embarking upon a mission trip to the Navajo people group and are currently fundraising in preparation for the trip. To learn more about donating to this very worthy cause interested parties can call the Korean Central Church at (817) 919-8880.

The Challenges and Rewards of Ministry in a Suburban Context

NASHVILLE – The men and women of the Acts 29 Network, a church planting network of pastors, gathered this week for the Acts 29 Global Gathering conference. Among the key note speakers at the event was Ross Lester, pastor of Bryanston Bible Church, in suburban Johannesburg. Pastor Lester spoke to the audience regarding ministry in a suburban context. Though there are several churches within the Acts 29 Network that serve suburban areas, the network had long been known for its emphasis on planting in urban, population-dense environments.

“(Suburban ministry) doesn’t sound very exciting, or missionally hip, and doesn’t fit the mold of urban church planting that we have all been espousing for the last decade or so.”

However, Pastor Lester’s address caused quite a positive stir. Many conference goers took to social media to discuss how the message challenged their thought. The buzz led to Pastor Lester tweeting the post found below.

For quick reference we’ve pulled out and listed below some of the primary points from the address. Those interested in reading the address’ transcript in its entirety can do so by visiting the link at the end of this article.

  • You have to fight hard for genuine community in places that revolve around the cult of the stand-alone nuclear family unit
  • You have to strive to model and teach the value of diversity in spaces built around homogeny
  • You have to continually highlight God’s desire for justice in spaces designed to remove people from feeling and experiencing injustice
  • You have to remind people of God’s great mission and their place in it, in the midst of routines, school-runs, commutes and survival
  • You have to make big calls of sacrifice in the midst of surroundings designed around comfort
  • You have to promote and celebrate advance in spaces designed for retreat
  • You have to preach and believe the scandalous gospel of grace in environments designed around performance and self-help

“The suburbs are essentially an attempt to create an alternate Kingdom. A place of peace and security here on earth. As such, it is a noble endeavor, but it does it through exclusion and not through the power of God’s grace and truth…. Breathe Kingdom of God grace and Spirit of God power repeatedly into your suburban people. They can change the world. But they will need to enlargen their worldview in order to do that. That’s why God sent you to teach them.”

Grace Church Pastor Discusses the Mission and Vision Behind Benbrook’s Newest Church

Grace Church is set to open its doors to the public on August 20. Excitement and hopeful anticipation abounds among the new congregation as the public launch date draws near. Amidst the preparations Pastor Ryan Keeney took time to sit down with Benbrook Life and discuss the motivation and vision behind the new church plant.

Benbrook Life: Let’s start with the name. Why did you choose to call it Grace Church?

Pastor Keeney: The deepest message of the Bible is the grace of God to sinners and sufferers. Grace is unconditional love toward a person who does not deserve it. While everyone desperately needs it, grace is not about us. Grace is fundamentally a word about God: his un-coerced initiative and pervasive, extravagant demonstrations of care and favor. In grace, God gives nothing less than Himself. Grace, then, is not a third thing or substance mediating between God and sinners, but is Jesus Christ in redeeming action. Jesus—the grace of God to sinners and sufferers—is what Benbrook needs. It needs extravagant grace that flips the normative religious message in our region of “do good to earn God’s favor” to “look at what Jesus has done to secure God’s favor for you.” This grace is our message. It is also our culture. A culture where it’s okay to not be okay. A culture where people don’t hide their sin and suffering but can and do honestly expose it. A culture where we don’t trust in our earning, deserving, or meriting, but on God who “cares and stoops and rescues.” A culture that extends to others what we’ve received from God. We will be a forgiving, merciful, pursuant, gracious, and loving community.

==Workers Compensation Doctors in Dallas / Fort Worth==

“Grace is our message. It is also our culture. A culture where it’s okay to not be okay. A culture where people don’t hide their sin and suffering…”

Benbrook Life: Why are you planting a new church?

Pastor Keeney: For more people to meet Jesus.

Benbrook Life: There are a lot of places that probably need new churches. Why did you choose Benbrook?

Pastor Keeney: We are planting in Benbrook because the Greater Fort Worth area is growing. The people who are filling our neighborhoods are hurting. Because we believe that God’s grace will change these hurting lives, they can be used by God to change North Texas, the South, the U.S., and the world. Fort Worth is one of the fastest growing large cities in the United States. This means the City of Benbrook is growing as well. It is projected to reach its ultimate population of approximately 48,095 people in the year 2050, nearly twice the 2010 population. It will be a changing landscape as young families continue to move in. The unchurched need to hear of the grace of God to them–sinners and sufferers. And so do the scores that have been burned or neglected by the church.  Also we see Benbrook as a hub to send out church planting teams to other suburbs and small towns in the Southwest region of the Metroplex (think from Weatherford to Granbury to Burleson).

“The people who are filling our neighborhoods are hurting. Because we believe that God’s grace will change these hurting lives, they can be used by God to change North Texas, the South, the U.S., and the world.”

Benbrook Life: What kind of people are you hoping to reach with your message?

Pastor Keeney: Not people who are currently a member of a local church. People who have never been a part of a church or were burned by a church. People who are skeptical, antagonistic, or have run away from the church. That’s who we are starting this new church for.

“People who are skeptical, antagonistic, or have run away from the church. That’s who we are starting this new church for.”

Benbrook Life: Why are your Sunday gatherings at the Korean Central Church?

Pastor Keeney: The Korean Church gathers at 2:00 pm on Sundays which allows us to gather at a more traditional time (10:00 am)… which is a great time for us. The relationship we have with the Korean congregation also helps minimize set up for us and has provided opportunities for us to help them with their facilities. We have young families who have the ability to update and work on the landscape and buildings.

Benbrook Life: What is your vision for serving the community of Benbrook, at large?

Pastor Keeney: We encourage our people towards: participation, restoration, conversation, and multiplication. Participation is getting involved in our community through seasonal events, shopping local, being regulars, tipping generously, joining the YMCA, and being a blessing in the workplace. Restoration is the intentional effort to meet the needs of others in such a way that they experience a kind of help, or renewal, even if temporal. It helps people transition out of trouble or need and into a place of safety or satisfaction. Historically, Christians have called this type of ministry “works of mercy.” Our church-wide focus is on foster care and adoption, the Benbrook Elementary school, and the widows in our neighborhoods. Also we have individuals who volunteer in other ways (e.g. pregnancy center). Conversation is the exchange of words and ideas with others at every level of human experience. Specifically we mean when a Christian speaks with a stranger in the coffee shop, as well as when he or she talks about Jesus with a coworker and so on. Multiplication is about planting other churches and helping revitalize declining churches.

Benbrook Life: How do you envision your church working with other churches in the area?

Pastor Keeney: At our first gathering as a core team we prayed for the other churches in the area by name. I already have friendships with a few of the pastors in Benbrook and look to grow that. I want to work together, in particular, collaborating to plant more churches. Many of the churches in Benbrook were planted in the past few decades and we want to join in on that movement—especially with the projected growth of Benbrook over the next few decades.

Benbrook Life: What are your expectations for the first 5 years of your new church?

Pastor Keeney: I want to plant a family here that loves one another and is committed to Benbrook over the long haul. I want us to be a people who blesses our community. I want to baptize people in the park twice a year. I want to send out a church planter (or two) with teams.

“I want to plant a family here that loves one another and is committed to Benbrook over the long haul.”

Benbrook Life: Lastly, where can people go to learn more about you and your church?

Pastor Keeney: Anyone who wants to know more about Grace Church can visit our website (gracebenbrook.com) . They can also join us this Sunday, August 13, for our “Preview Service”. I’m also available for lunch or coffee (ryan@gracebenbrook.com) if anyone in Benbroook wants to meet up and discuss our new church.

Grace Church gathers on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am in the Korean Central Church building located at 200 E Mildred Ln in Benbrook, TX.

Grace Church in Benbrook will be hosting their semi-annual baptism service this Sunday, October 13, at beautiful Benbrook Stables.

“Join us for a Baptism Celebration at 10am at the Benbrook Stables (10001 Benbrook Blvd. Fort Worth, Texas 76126) on Sunday, October 13th!”

From the church’s website:

PARTY
This will be a beautiful and joyful party! We will celebrate by singing and eating together as one big family in response to what God has done.

FOOD
One of our members will be cooking BBQ for everyone but we need everyone else to bring drinks and sides (this will be our monthly lunch together). Sign-up will be available soon

FUN
There will also be bounce houses for the kids, cornhole, horseshoes, and even a volleyball court to enjoy after we eat! Invite your friends and neighbors to come out and see God’s work in people’s lives as we celebrate people being transferred from death to life.

WHAT IS BAPTISM?
When Christians are baptized, they fulfill the command of Jesus (Matt. 28:19–20) and are submerged in water to identify with the death of Jesus. They rise out of the water to identify with his resurrection (Rom. 6:1–10; Col. 2:12). This identification with the death, burial, and resurrection through baptism testifies to the fact that we believe in faith that Jesus died in our place for our sins, was buried, rose three days later, and now is alive and Lord over all of creation.

** Parking. They have plenty of parking for us on site.

** Chairs or blankets. Please bring chairs or blankets for seating.

** Clothes. Be comfortable. Shorts and tennis shoes are welcome.
** Umbrellas and sunglasses. It’s been quite sunny in the past.
